In November 2004, South African National Parks (SANParks) introduced its online forum as a means to get visitors and fans of SANParks to interact with and share their wildlife experiences in the parks with each other, regardless of their location. In just over five years, the SANParks Forum has grown to 17 566 members with an average rate of nine new members per day, and has reached one million posts!
The 1’000’000th post was made by a very active member of the forum called ecojunkie, who has a count of 2 687 posts since registering in 2007. She has also been accepted as a volunteer for the Savanna Fire Ignition Research Experiment (SavFIRE) in Kruger National Park (KNP) and lives in Malelane Camp in KNP. Her momentous post was made in the Cricket Planning topic which happens to be a closed topic for the planning committee to discuss preparations for the annual Cricket@Skukuza event set to take place on 13 March 2010 at the Skukuza Cricket Ground (KNP).
SANParks takes this opportunity to thank all its Forum members for their participation on this forum since 2004. The popularity and growth of this forum is entirely dependent on the members who register and interact with each other and build this community. The vision SANParks had of this forum becoming an online community has certainly been exceeded over these five years.
Congratulations to ecojunkie for being the lucky forum member to post the 1’000’000th post! A SANParks hamper to mark your achievement will be on its way to you as a token of our pleasure at this achievement. To all the forum members, keep posting and let’s get the next million.
