South African National Parks would like to announce that as of this morning the Wilderness National Park and Nature’s Valley rest-camp in the Tsitsikamma National Park are completely flooded. Tourists who were in these areas have been evacuated. Operations in the park & the camp will be suspended for a minimum period of four weeks (till 23 December 2007), until full clean operations have been completed. Bookings during this period will either be cancelled or diverted to other national parks.
The N2 access road between Knysna and Wilderness has also been closed due to the floods. Visitors to national parks who are travelling between Western and Eastern Cape Provinces, who may need to use the N2 are advised to seek alternative routes.
All affected parties are requested to contact SANParks reservations on 012 426 5117 to speak to Hesther van der Berg or Ruth Thabane.
