The PEAP Cape Roadshow

PEAP (Public Education and Awareness Project) was founded by 3 of the Gauteng based Honorary Rangers (2 from Johannesburg region and one from West Rand). Their committee has been joined by an HR from Pretoria region. Most of their exhibitions and school visits have been within Gauteng and there is more than enough scope to keep them busy.

However in an effort to encourage other regions around the country to start developing PEAPs of their own, 2 of the PEAP committee (the 2 ladies) in a journey reminiscent of Thelma and Louise, went on a road show to the Cape.

First stop was Potchefstroom to meet with the Bankenveld Honorary Rangers. Then it was on to Kimberley to meet with the Diamantveld Honorary Rangers. The latter plan to have a permanent display at SANParks’ Graspan Breeding Centre.

Then it was the long haul to Cape Town where they had several educational visits lined up. During their stay there the eager pair exposed the SANParks’ and conservation message to 4 cub scout groups (Athlone, Claremont, Pinelands and Rondebosch) and 2 schools (Forres Prep and Somerset College).

They also found time to travel up to West Coast National Park and meet with the West Coast HRs and then through to Boulders Beach for the iKapa Regions handover of a wheelchair to the park staff. They had a brief chance to talk to iKapa HRs after the handover.

Then they traveled back to Gauteng via Karoo National Park where they met with the Karoo HRs.

All in all a sterling effort by 2 dedicated individuals. View some of their photos on the HR gallery under Schools, Diamantveld and iKapa.
